We offset our carbon emissions by supporting the Jari Para Pachama project. We calculate carbon created by shipping orders to you - taking into account the package weight, distance traveled, and mode of transportation. After calculating, we create balance by investing in the Pachama project via Shopify.
Here are high level details of the Jari Pachama project:
Overview: The Jari Para Project is an avoided deforestation project. This means, we are protecting and conserving a mass amount of forests that are in danger of being cut down - forests almost twice the size of Luxembourg! It is also a REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation) project that is at the front lines of deforestation in the Amazon.
Location: Brazil
Project Timeline: July 2014 - July 2044
Standards: Verified Carbon Standard
Area: 513,000ha [What is area? Area indicates the geographic size of the forest being restored or protected. One hectare is about the size of two football fields.]

We recognize that this partnership for offsetting carbon emissions is not a license to pollute and do what we can throughout all business operations to reduce our carbon footprint, but we also recognize that offsetting carbon emissions is a necessary tool in our ever changing journey towards fully sustainable operations. It’s not perfect, but it certainly is progress!
