Belle + Blossom is on a mission to encourage ethically conscious shopping and bring awareness of social injustices through collections of fair trade goods offered to mainstream markets. Who was our first partnership? Fair Anita! Here are 3 reasons why we love this social enterprise and think you will too:
- Inspiration and Foundation. In 2009, Fair Anita’s founder (Joy McBrien) went to Peru to learn about violence against women. Peru has one of the highest rates of domestic violence in the world, including femicide. Joy met with survivors, listened to their stories, and learned about how they overcame their obstacles. One commonality among each survivor’s story was the importance of having a job - earning a sustainable income empowers women to leave their abusive partner. Fair Anita was founded with the lessons she learned from these stories and this is what continues to drive their business! Their vision is to help women and girls grow up feeling safe, respected, and valued no matter their geography.
- Women Empowerment. Fair Anita supports women through providing skill and development training, hosting workshops and mentorship programs, promoting talent, philanthropic giving, and selling fair trade products. These four methods improve the artisan’s quality of life by coaching them to be leaders with strong business skills and ensure they have access to resources they need.
- Fair Trade Federation Members. The FTF is an association of social enterprises who are dedicated to sustainable and equitable trade partnerships. What does this mean and why is it important? They’ve gone through a rigorous process to prove that they don’t only buy and sell fair trade items, but their entire business integrates fair trade practices for everything they do. For Belle + Blossom, this means there is no doubt that each purchase for a Fair Anita product is truly considered fair trade.
